Parents of starved baby each held on $250k bond

BARRINGTON, Ill. - Suburban Chicago parents charged with involuntary manslaughter in the starvation death of their infant daughter are being held on bond of $250,000 each.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that 19-year-old Markisha Jones and 22-year-old Gene Edwards appeared in bond court Saturday.

Their 7-month girl died in January at an apartment the couple was renting in Barrington. They currently live in Bolingbrook.

The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled the girl's death a homicide due to malnutrition from starvation. Prosecutors say the girl and her twin sister were taken off formula on November and fed bottles filled only with water, cereal and baby food.

The twin was taken into custody by child welfare authorities

It was not immediately clear if the couple already had an attorney.
