U.S. man faces interrogation, 2nd expulsion from Pakistan
ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's interior minister says a blacklisted American citizen will be deported once a joint interrogation team completes its work.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said in Islamabad Friday that Matthew Barrett submitted incorrect information in a visa application at the Pakistani consulate five years after his previous deportation.
Barrett, a 33-year-old Alabama native had lived in Pakistan for four years, married a Pakistani woman and had two children. He was expelled from the country in 2011 after being found near a sensitive military installation.
Khan said Barrett was not considered a spy, but was involved in "wrong doings." He did not elaborate.
After re-entering the country Barrett was arrested last week from an Islamabad guest house. The minister suspended airport immigration staff and ordered a probe into the incident.
