Oscars 2016: Lady Gaga performs touching tribute to rape victims

Lady Gaga has been killing it lately: Fans loved her performances at Super Bowl 50 and her tribute to David Bowie at the Grammys.

And now her performance at the Oscars can be added to the list.

"You tell me it gets better, it gets better in time," she opened as she performed the nominee for Best Original Song, "Til It Happens to You." It's the song Gaga wrote with Diane Warren for the documentary "The Hunting Ground," which follows alleged incidents of sexual assault on college campuses in the United States.

Gaga sat at a grand piano and played as she sang lyrics like, "Till it happens to you, you don't know how it feels, how it feels."

Gaga has talked openly before about when she was raped at 19.

Mid-performance, dozens of victims stepped forward on stage and held out their arms, with words written on them like "Unbreakable" and "Not your fault."

The singer received a standing ovation, with many celebrities looking solemn and even teary as they clapped.

Earlier in February, Gaga opened up to CBS News about how personal the song is for her, saying, "I know I feel really and truly like I bared my soul. It wasn't until I was almost, I think, 27 years old that I did even acknowledge that this happened in my life. Like, 'Oh yeah, that.'"
