Cops: 3 dead, 1 critical after Oregon farmhouse shooting

WOODBURN, Ore. -- Three people are dead and another is critically injured after a shooting at a rural Oregon farmhouse Monday, CBS affiliate KOIN reported.

The incident was reported around 11 a.m. at the farm near Woodburn, about 30 miles south of Portland. Two men were pronounced dead at the scene, and the third person, a woman, died later, officials told KOIN.

A lone suspect was detained without incident by the Oregon State Police, Lt. Chris Baldridge of the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.

The arrest happened at milepost 71 on Interstate 84, said Oregon State Police Capt. Bill Fugate. That would put it in the Columbia River Gorge just outside the town of Mosier, 80 miles northeast of Woodburn.

A motive remains unclear.

Baldridge said the deputies had found two dead men, a wounded man and a wounded woman, and later issued a statement that said "tragically the female has died at the hospital and the male remains in critical condition."

The sheriff's office said it is for the time being withholding information on the victims and the shooter.

The farm is an operational berry farm that runs a legal marijuana grow operation, the station reports, but investigators don't believe the crime is related to that.

Law enforcement officers from several departments converged on the farmhouse. Identities of the dead and wounded were not immediately released, and Baldridge said he did not know if the shooter was related to or knew the victims.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office thanked the Oregon State Police, Woodburn Police Department and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office for assisting.
