Opening statements to begin in dismemberment trial of Mich. man

DETROIT - Opening statements are set to begin in the trial of a 41-year-old man accused of killing a Detroit-area couple and dumping their body parts into the Detroit River.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says a jury was selected Tuesday and opening statements start Wednesday morning in Roger Bowling's Wayne County Circuit Court trial.

Bowling is charged with first-degree murder in the 2012 slayings of 32-year-old Danielle Greenway and 42-year-old Chris Hall at their home in Allen Park.

CBS Detroit reports the U.S. Coast Guard found the bodies of Greenway and Hall floating in the Detroit River and an adjoining canal on July 17, 2012.

Authorities say Bowling knew Greenway from a previous relationship and had been living with her and Hall for about a month before the killings. Police say the victims were shot and dismembered.

After finding the victim's remains, investigators went to the couple's home and found "copious amounts" of blood and numerous cleaning supplies, according to the station.

"Evidence collected from the scene would indicate that [Greenway and Hall] were murdered in their home and their bodies transported to the location in Detroit where they were recovered," said then-Interim Police Chief James Wilkewitz.

Authorities have not publicly identified a motive.

The station reports Bowling is also facing charges of dismemberment and mutilation of a body, using a firearm in a felony and tampering with evidence.
