One held, one suspect identified in NYC Diamond District robbery

NEW YORK -- Police said that a suspect was in custody Monday night in connection with the robbery of a watch store last week in New York City's famed Diamond District, reports CBS New York.

The man was identified as 37-year-old Rondu Frisby. Police told reporters that charges were pending. They are also looking for a second man, identified as Leon Fenner, 58.

Sources told the station that Frisby was an employee of the store and was inside when the robbery occurred.

The gunpoint robbery happened Nov. 11 around 2:30 p.m., when three robbers held up the jewelry store. Police said that a man posing as a courier -- and believed to be behind the attack, 1010 WINS reported -- entered the store while a second man stood outside, acting as a lookout.

Fenner was later identified by the police as the man who is believed to be the lookout -- surveillance photos and video show a man in a hat and trench coat.

The man dressed as a courier had a white button-down shirt and a dark tie said that he had two letters to deliver, NYPD Deputy Chief William Aubry told reporters last week.

Once inside, police say he pulled a gun on four employees and demanded they open the safe. Detectives also said that the suspect pistol-whipped the owner when he came into the room.

Following the robbery, some area employees were ordered to stay inside while others were evacuated, according to CBS New York. The station also reports that there are dozens of cameras in the Diamond District, including one police camera located outside the building.
