"Once Upon a Time" casts Elsa from "Frozen"
The residents of Storybrooke, Maine, are about to get a chilling new addition to their enchanted community.
Producers from the hit ABC fairy tale series "Once Upon a Time" have cast TV's "Fringe" and "Reckless" star Georgina Haig as the Snow Queen Elsa -- a role originally voiced by Idina Menzel in Disney's hit animated musical, "Frozen."
The casting news was first revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Executive producer Edward Kitsis told THR in May, "[What] we loved so much about the character of Elsa was that she was considered a villain but she never really was. She was misunderstood. That, on our show, speaks to us so strongly, that it was a toy we had to play with."
Elsa is expected to appear on a reoccurring basis when the series returns for season 4 in the fall. The character had already made a cameo appearance in the season 3 finale in May.
It was previously announced that Elizabeth Lail will play Elsa's younger sister, Anna, while Scott Michael Foster will step into the role of Anna's love interest, Kristoff. Anna was voiced by Kristen Bell in the film version while Jonathan Groff provided the voice of Kristoff.
"Frozen" became a huge hit at the box office in 2013, taking in over $1.26 billion in global ticket sales. The film also won two Academy Awards -- one for best animated feature and another for best original song for the hit single, "Let It Go."
"Once Upon a Time" airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
