Florida man indicted in fatal dog poop fight

MIAMI - A South Florida man has been indicted on a charge of first-degree murder for allegedly killing a neighbor during a dispute over a dog defecating in a yard, reports CBS Miami.

The indictment against 66-year-old Omar Rodriguez was handed down Wednesday by a grand jury.

Miami-Dade police say Rodriguez fired two shots at Jose Rey last month for allegedly letting his dog defecate on Rodriguez's son's lawn. Rey died of his injuries after undergoing multiple surgeries.

Rodriguez's attorney, Alan Ross, says Rey started the argument and came after Rodriguez with a knife.

The Miami Herald reports the shooting was the culmination of years of stalking, threats and false allegations lobbed by Rodriguez against various residents. Rodriguez has been arrested several times, but never served serious jail time.

Neighbors have filed more than 140 complaints with police about Rodriguez since 2008. Rodriguez has also filed numerous hand-written lawsuits against neighbors and police.
