Okla. man says he deserves death penalty for killing his family

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A 20-year-old Oklahoma man says he deserves the death penalty for the October shooting deaths of his newspaper publisher father, and his mother and sister.

Defendant Alan Hruby made the statements in a letter to The Oklahoman newspaper. The paper had sent Hruby a list of questions June 25 about the killings.

When asked why he committed the crimes, Hruby responded that he "didn't feel like (him)self" the day of the shootings. He also told the paper that his remorse was genuine when he cried repeatedly during a preliminary hearing last month.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for the shootings of John Hruby, Joy "Tinker" Hruby, and Katherine Hruby.

They were found dead by a housekeeper at the family's home in Duncan.

John Hruby was publisher of the weekly newspaper The Marlow Review.
