Officials raid California temple for Kombucha tea
VENICE, Calif. -- Leaders of a new-age spiritual community say their tea time has been cancelled by California authorities.
CBS Los Angeles reoorts that the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control raided a charity event on May 8 at the Full Circle spiritual center in Venice, Calif.
The agents confiscated two kegs of Kombucha tea, which the center's members say they consider sacred. Kombucha products are fermented, and have an alcohol content that is typically less than one percent by volume -- about one-quarter the alcohol content of an average light beer.
State officials said the center did not have a license to sell alcohol on the premises.
The temple received a misdemeanor citation. A court date has been set for July.
