Officials: Police shoot, kill Md. bank robbery suspect

LUTHERVILLE, Md. -- Authorities say police have shot and killed a black man while investigating a bank robbery in suburban Baltimore, and another man was injured.

Police Cpl. John Wachter says the man who died was the driver of a car that police stopped while searching for robbery suspects. He was taken to a hospital, but did not survive. The shooting took place Friday afternoon near Lutherville, about 10 miles north of downtown Baltimore.

The passenger, who is also black, was taken into custody. County police spokeswoman Elise Armacost said in a tweet that the injuries were not life threatening to the passenger, who was wanted for multiple bank robberies.

Armacost tweeted that the men had robbed a Wells Fargo bank branch shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, about four miles away away.
