Officials: Drugs, guns intercepted at NY mail sorting plant
ONEIDA, N.Y. --Authorities say 22 people have been arrested after investigators intercepted packages containing drugs, guns and about $160,000 at a central New York mail sorting facility.
State police and the U.S. Postal Service said Monday they seized the contraband during the investigation that began two weeks ago in the town of Cicero.
They say the packages originated in New York, elsewhere in the U.S. and overseas. Some were found with the help of drug-detecting dogs.
Once packages were confirmed to hold contraband, they were traced to the delivery addresses where arrests and seizures were made.
Troopers say 80 pounds of marijuana was found, along with cocaine, heroin, LSD, narcotics and synthetic drugs. Four semi-automatic rifles and a shotgun were seized.
