Official Bob Marley marijuana is on the way

Legendary reggae artist Bob Marley is often linked with marijuana use, but that association is about to become official: Marley will soon be the face of the "first global brand of marijuana."

On Tuesday, the Marley family and a private equity firm Privateer Holdings announced the launch of Marley Natural -- "a premium cannabis brand rooted in the life and legacy of Bob Marley."

The line will include pot-infused creams, accessories -- like vaporizers in the style of e-cigarettes -- and high-quality strains of "heirloom Jamaican cannabis," inspired by the product Marley extravagantly enjoyed himself.

The Marley family previously licensed brands of coffee, "king-sized" rolling papers and shirts that say "Smoke Like a Marley," but this is their first venture into cannabis.

"My dad would be so happy to see people understanding the healing power of the herb," said the late singer's daughter, Cedella Marley. "Marley Natural is an authentic way to honor his legacy by adding his voice to the conversation about cannabis and helping end the social harms caused by prohibition."

"My husband believed 'the herb' was a natural and positive part of life, and he felt it was important to the world. He looked forward to this day," said his wife Rita Marley.

Throughout his life, Marley was an avid spokesperson for marijuana use, quoted saying, "When you smoke weed, you are revealed to yourself," "To make marijuana against the law is like saying God made a mistake" and other phrases on college dorm posters to this day.

Marley Natural will hit shelves 2015, and will be available in states where pot is legal.
