Police: Officer wounded, suspect killed in Baltimore shooting

BALTIMORE -- An officer was wounded and a suspect killed during an an officer-involved shooting in the city of Baltimore, police say.

It happened in the 3700 block of Oakmount Avenue in northwest Baltimore.

An officer was shot in the leg. The suspect, identified by police as a 32-year-old male, was killed.

During a media briefing Wednesday night, Baltimore police spokesman TJ Smith said officers on patrol came across the suspect on the street. The suspect had a gun, and a confrontation ensued, according to police. The suspect shot one of the officers and the officer returned fire.

CBS affiliate WJZ reported the officer was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police said the suspect's weapon has been recovered from the scene, WJZ reported.
