Officer dies after shooting at Texas courthouse

BAYTOWN, Texas -- Police say a law enforcement officer in suburban Houston has died after being shot at a courthouse.

Harris County Pct. 3 Assistant Chief Deputy Constable Clinton Greenwood was shot during the incident at the Harris County courthouse in Baytown around 7 a.m. Monday, said Lt. Steve Dorris of the Baytown Police.

Officers responded to a call for assistance and found the deputy shot there at least once, Dorris said. Greenwood was airlifted to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Baytown Police were handling the investigation. Few details were immediately available about a suspect or the suspect’s car, but no arrests had been made.

“It’s very early on in the investigation,” said Dorris. “What I can tell you is we have the full force of the Baytown Police Department working on the case along with members from the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, the Texas Rangers, the Pct. 3 Constable’s Department and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force.”

Greenwood was a 30-year law enforcement veteran, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.
