Off-duty police officer shot in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS -- An off-duty New Orleans police officer was shot Sunday night in the Desire neighborhood, reports CBS affiliate WWL.

WWL reports that the NOPD confirmed that the officer was off-duty and was driving in the area in an unmarked vehicle shortly before 8 p.m. He was not wearing his uniform.

In a tweet late Sunday evening, NOPD identified the victim as Lt. Derek Frick, a 24 year veteran of NOPD. Frick was promoted to Commander last month.

He was shot in the neck. He is in critical condition.

A search for the shooter is underway.

NOPD tweeted that the officer was shot in the 3300 block of Alvar Street.
