2 shot dead in birthday party dispute at Oakland art gallery

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Police in Northern California say two people were killed and two others wounded outside a birthday party held at an Oakland art gallery.

Oakland police Officer John O'Reilly tells the East Bay Times that officers responded Sunday morning to reports of gunfire and two men were pronounced dead at the scene.

O'Reilly says a dispute started inside the party and spilled outside with at least two people opening fire. Police told the Mercury News there was gunfire inside the gallery, and one victim was found inside.

A woman was also wounded in the shooting, and another man cut himself when he ran into a plate-glass window as he tried to avoid the gunfire.

O'Reilly says investigators are still trying to determine a motive in the shooting. No arrests have been made.

The party at Prime Development, an art gallery and vintage clothing store, was to celebrate a man's 20th birthday. The "all-ages" event was promoted on social media as a part of a series of neighborhood parties and was believed to have been attended by up to 100 people, reports the Mercury News.
