NYPD probes death of girl, 4, at homeless shelter
NEW YORK - Authorities are investigating the death of a 4-year-old girl at a homeless shelter in Queens.
Police say the child, identified as Lanaysah Meraldo, was found unconscious and unresponsive just before 1 p.m. Thursday at the Briarwood Family Residence on 134th Street.
She was pronounced dead by EMS. The medical examiner is to determine the cause of death.
Last week, authorities say a 3-year-old girl was fatally beaten by her stepfather after she soiled her diaper. The stepfather has been arrested.
