NYC teen charged in death of mom's ex-boyfriend
NEW YORK — Police say an 18-year-old man killed his mother's ex-boyfriend Monday, but his family tells CBS New York he was defending her from the now-deceased man.
Police say 43-year-old Stanley Washington arrived at the apartment that the suspect, Luis Moux, shares with his mother around 4:30 p.m., and began arguing with her. Sources say the argument between the woman and Washington, who had been accused of domestic violence against the woman twice before, became physical.
Moux told police he came out to find Washington on top of his mother. He allegedly stepped in and put Washington into a chokehold that caused Washington to lose consciousness, and police say, killed him.
Moux was charged Monday with manslaughter.
Many of the teen's family members gathered at the Bronx's 52nd Precinct stationhouse. They told CBS New York off camera that the teen was nonviolent and had been defending his mother. A neighbor later echoed that claim.
