Woman shoots sister, accused's husband calls it fatal accident

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. - A North Carolina woman is accused of shooting her sister to death earlier this week and a recording of a 911 call reveals it may have been an accident.

Authorities responded to reports of a shooting at a condominium in Carolina Beach early Tuesday and when officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman who was shot, Police Chief Ken Hinkle said.

Hinkle and District Attorney Ben David say 54-year-old Joyce Goldberg is charged with second-degree murder in the death of her sister, 58-year-old Glenda Bordeaux. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Star News Online reports a man who identified himself as Goldberg's husband made the 911 call to report the shooting and indicated it was an accident.

"It was my wife and it was an accident. She shot her sister by accident," the man said in the 7:22 a.m. Tuesday phone call to 911, according to the news site.

"There's only one wound. There was only one shot," the man reportedly said.

He then told the dispatcher he was going to take the bullets out of the gun.

"I just don't trust anything that's going on," he explained, according to the site.

Investigators aren't saying yet what may have led to the shooting. Joyce Goldberg is being held in jail on $287,000 bond. A public defender has been appointed for her.
