N.C. baby's death ruled homicide; autopsy reveals injuries

KINSTON, N.C.--Police have re-opened an investigation into the February death of 1-month-old Caden Williams, reports CBS affiliate WBTW.

An autopsy ruled the Kinston, N.C. baby's death a homicide after finding he suffered broken ribs, a damaged liver and serious head trauma.

Caden's aunt, Nakia Blackwell, says the baby started coughing up blood and stopped breathing during a February 17th visit to his father's house.

"Now that we have the autopsy report back, it's no sleeping. We know somebody actually killed this baby," Blackwell said.

She added that it's still unclear who is responsible for the injuries to Caden.

"We sent a perfectly healthy baby away, and the next thing you know we are at the hospital kissing a dead baby," said Blackwell.

She says the last six months waiting for the autopsy results have been difficult for Caden's mother, and the details of Caden's injuries were hard for the family to read.

"It was a gruesome murder. You shook this baby, you punched this baby, you slapped this baby, and then you didn't get the baby [any] help," said Blackwell.

Police have not arrested anyone in the case.
