9 shot at Fla. basketball court in drive-by; suspect on loose

MIAMI - Police say nine people who were playing basketball at a Miami park have been injured, one critically, in a drive-by shooting.

A statement from the Miami-Dade Police department says as a car approached the courts Monday around 4:45 p.m., the car's passenger opened fire.

Police say a 16-year-old boy was struck in the head and was listed in serious but stable condition. All other victims were shot in extremities.

Eight of the victims were between the ages of 16 and 21 years old. One victim's age was not immediately available.

The suspect fled, and police say the motive is unclear. The statement says the suspects' car was a dark, newer-model Nissan Maxima.
