Nick Cannon dons whiteface to promote "White People Party Music" album

Nick Cannon is facing a wave of controversy after wearing whiteface in a new photo.

The 33-year-old "America's Got Talent" host is about to release his first album in 11 years, "White People Party Music," and he took a unique approach to promoting his latest work.

In a photo posted to Cannon's Instagram account Monday, the black entertainer can be seen in whiteface, complete with a caption that reads, "It's official, I'm White!":

Cannon, the father of twins Moroccan and Monroe with wife Mariah Carey, has even named his Caucasian incarnation, going by "Connor Smallnut."

Some Instagram users voiced their anger on Cannon's page soon after the post, deeming the photo as socially insensitive or racist. Others pointed to instances where white celebrities have come under fire for wearing blackface, such as the case with Julianne Hough.

Regardless of his intentions, Cannon has been successful in getting the public to start talking about his latest album.

"White People Party Music" is available to purchase on April 1.
