New York's Penn Station briefly evacuated

NEW YORK -- Penn Station, one of the nation's busiest transit hubs, was evacuated Thursday night and trains were held at the station for about an hour after a suspicious package was found, CBS New York reported.

Firefighters and the New York police bomb squad headed to the scene after the package was reported around 10 p.m., police said

Officials gave the all clear just before 11 p.m., CBS New York said.

During the shutdown, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains were not being allowed in or out of Penn Station. Long Island Rail Road service was temporarily suspended between Penn Station and the Jamaica section of Queens.

New York City subway trains were bypassing 34th Street/Penn Station stops while the package was investigated.
