Clerk throws shoe at shotgun-wielding bandit during robbery
HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- A brave store clerk brought a robber to heel in New York state, CBS New York reports.
He threw a shoe in a shotgun-wielding gunman's face.
The gunman entered the Route 9 Mini Mart Citgo Station in Staatsburg at around 8 p.m. Tuesday night, New York State Police said. The robber pointed his gun at the clerk, demanding cash.
The clerk started loading cash from the register into a plastic bag when the masked gunman reached over the counter to get into the register. That's when the clerk attacked.
After the clerk grabbed the gunman's arm, video shows the bandit backing away from the counter and pointing his shotgun at the clerk. The clerk then hurled his shoe, hitting the gunman in the face.
Staatsburg Robbery Investigation**PLEASE SHARE** Troop K - The New York State Police in Rhinebeck are investigating an armed robbery at the Route 9 Mini Mart Citgo Station, 4912 Route 9 in Staatsburg, NY.On December 15, 2015, at approximately 8:00 p.m., a white male entered the gas station holding a shotgun. The suspect demanded money from the clerk. The clerk attempted to overpower the suspect and the suspect fled the store. A short struggle ensued outside of the store where the suspect fired a round from the shotgun striking the ground. The suspect is described as approximately 5'10" tall with a thin build, wearing a camouflage mask and clothing.The suspect fled the scene northbound on Route 9 in a dark colored vehicle with orange NY plates. Despite the danger, the clerk continued to attack the robber, forcing him out of the shop.
Police said that once outside the gunman fired a round, hitting the ground, before driving off.
