NY brothers charged in pit bull attack that injured boy, 9

MINEOLA, N.Y. -- Two Long Island brothers are facing criminal charges after authorities say a pit bull they were watching attacked a 9-year-old boy.

Cesar Cuellar and Anthony Villalta, both of Westbury, pleaded not guilty to reckless assault and other charges and were released without bail.

Cuellar's attorney says his client committed no crime.

Villalta's attorney did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.

Nassau County prosecutors say a boy was walking on a Westbury street when two dogs attacked him. The dogs allegedly had no leashes, and no guardian was with them. One of the dogs bit the boy, causing extensive injuries.

Prosecutors say 27-year-old Cuellar and 19-year-old Villalta were supposed to be watching the dogs. They say the dog that bit the boy was involved in three prior attacks.
