New charges for Virginia student accused of murdering roommate

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.- A student at the University of Mary Washington faces an additional charge brought by a grand jury on Monday, reports CBS affiliate WUSA.

Steven Vander Briel, 30, was indicted on murder chargers for roommate Gracie Mann, 20, in April.

Vander Briel was charged Monday with strangulation in the death of Mann, he was already been indicted on murder charges.

According to the station, both Vander Briel and Mann attended the University of Mary Washington and shared a house with other roommates. Some of the other roommates testified in June that Vander Briel admitted to killing Mann. Vander Briel reportedly claimed he strangled Mann after she attacked him.

Vander Briel is due back in court on August 18 for an arraignment hearing.
