Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka tie the knot

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka wed on Saturday after 10 years together.

The former "How I Met Your Mother" star announced the news on Twitter:

According to People, they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Italy with close friends and family in attendance. Pam Fryman, the long-time director of "How I Met Your Mother," officiated the nuptials, and Elton John performed. Harris and Burtka's 3-year-old fraternal twins, Harper Grace and Gideon Scott, also participated in the big day.

In June 2011, a day after New York's state senate passed the Marriage Equality Bill, the couple announced they were engaged.

"David and I did propose to each other, but over five years ago!" Harris wrote. "We've been wearing engagement rings for ages, waiting for an available date."

"I've already [purposed], he said yes! Thank god!" Burkta added on Twitter at the time.

Harris will be seen on the big screen this fall in "Gone Girl." He recently wrapped a Broadway stint in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch."
