Nathan Fillion will join "Modern Family" as a guest star

He might be done with "Castle," but Nathan Fillion has other plans for the new TV season.

Fillion will appear next season in a multiple-episode arc on "Modern Family," executive producer Steve Levitan announced Thursday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

Fillion play a weatherman with the dubious stage name Rainer Shine, and his guest spot will last at least three episodes. Martin Short will also guest-star next season, Levitan said.

Fillion was most recently seen on the small screen on "Castle," which ran for eight seasons on ABC -- the same network as "Modern Family" -- before being canceled earlier this year. While Fillion is known to fans for his comedic performances in film and online, on television he's mostly stuck to more serious fare. "Modern Family" marks his first major comedic TV work.
