Mystery footage found on long-lost GoPro camera

Long-lost GoPro camera found by California diver

VENTURA, Calif. -- A Southern California man is hoping social media can help him track down the owner of a long-lost GoPro camera he found in the waters of the Pacific Ocean.

CBS Los Angeles' Kaj Goldberg spoke with Kevin Brown, who found the GoPro camera underwater and is looking to return it to its rightful owner.

Brown explained he spotted the camera while lobster diving in the Channel Islands a few weeks ago.

"When I took it apart I could see it had a memory stick inside," said Brown. The only clue he has to go on is the video footage retrieved from the memory stick, which shows two young women surfing at Ventura Point.

"You could see who they are and what they were doing," Brown added. "It's kind of a mystery."

Amazingly, a time stamp revealed that the camera had been underwater for five years, dating back to June 2009. It had also apparently been carried a distance of about 10 miles by ocean currents.

Brown said he is not looking to collect a reward, but just wants to reunite the camera and the memories it holds with whoever's been missing it all these years.
