Murder charge for man who said he shot suspected car thief

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia homeowner who says he shot a man because he thought he was attempting to break into his vehicle has been charged with murder, reports CBS Philly.

Richard Hull, 30, of Maple Shade, N.J., was shot to death by 56-year-old Brian Baur on a Philadelphia street on Thursday, Aug. 21. When authorities responded to the scene, Baur told them that he shot Hull because he thought Hull was trying to break into his vehicle.

Hull had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the incident, according to the station.

Baur reportedly turned over his weapon and surveillance video to authorities that night.

Baur was arrested two days later on Saturday, Aug. 23. He is charged with murder and other related offenses in the death of Hull.
