"Mrs. Doubtfire" musical in the works

"Mrs. Doubtfire" could be headed for Broadway.

Composer Alan Menken told EW Radio this week that he's coming up with a score for a "Mrs. Doubtfire" musical alongside Harvey Fierstein, who's writing the book; Fierstein played Frank in the 1993 film and has written books for Broadway shows, including "Kinky Boots." David Zippel, meanwhile, is writing the lyrics.

"It's going very well, it's in its early stages, and that's probably all I can say...We're really enjoying working on it," said Menken, the same person behind the music for "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast."

Prior to Robin Williams' death last year, there was talk of making a "Mrs. Doubtfire" sequel with Williams in the title role and director Chris Columbus back at the helm.

"Mrs. Doubtfire" won the Academy Award for best makeup, and Williams scored the best actor Golden Globe Award for his performance.
