"Mr. Peabody and Sherman" stars on voicing famous characters

The time has come for the return of "Mr. Peabody and Sherman."

The brilliant canine and his adopted human son from the 1950s and '60s cartoon series "The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show" are back for a new 3D animated adventure.

"Modern Family" cast member Ty Burrell steps into the voice role of Mr. Peabody, who journeys through the past with Sherman (child actor Max Charles) in their WABAC time machine. The father-and-son explorers visit famous historical figures, such as Albert Einstein and Marie Antoinette.

In addition to Burrell and Charles -- Stanley Tucci, Mel Brooks, Stephen Colbert, Allison Janney and Burrell's "Modern Family" co-star Ariel Winter also lend their voices to the adaptation.

Burrell admitted that it was "definitely" nerve-wracking for him to take on a famous role like Mr. Peabody, originally held by voice actor Bill Scott, who died in 1985.

"I spent a lot of time going over the Bill Scott version," Burrell said in a recent interview with CBS News. "I did feel an obligation to fans that there be at least a little bit of the original Mr. Peabody in there. I hope you can still here it."

Charles, 10, said he was glad to take part in the project, exposing children his age to a cartoon which may be unfamiliar to them.

"Kids don't really know about the old Mr. Peabody and Sherman," Charles said, "And it's really cool because you learn a lot about history in a fun way."
