Mother suspected of dropping baby out window probed in 2nd death

YONKERS, N.Y. -- A woman charged with dropping her newborn infant to her death out of a seventh-story window in New York City on Monday is now being investigated in connection with the 2008 death of another baby, authorities said.

The Westchester County District Attorney's office said Jennifer Berry's 2 1/2-week-old boy was found dead in her Yonkers home in 2008. The medical examiner's office attributed the death to sudden infant death syndrome, but the DA is taking another look following Monday's deadly incident, in which Berry's newborn girl was found dead in a Bronx apartment building courtyard.

The baby was found with its umbilical cord still attached, reports CBS New York. Police said surveillance video recorded the baby falling seven stories from an apartment where Berry and her husband now live.

Berry, 33, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder and manslaughter.

"In light of what has transpired, we will be reviewing that (2008) death again," said Lucian Chalfen, a spokesman for Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore.
