Mother charged with murder after baby's cause of death determined

ATLANTA -- Police have charged an Atlanta mother with murder after a coroner ruled her one-year-old daughter was beaten to death, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Kennedy Johnson died of “blunt force injuries of the head and torso,” the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office ruled Friday. Her mother, Trakeisha Saunders, reportedly called 911 on Sept. 22 to report the child was unresponsive at her home.

The girl was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Johnson’s cause of death was ruled a homicide. Saunders was booked into jail Oct. 6 and charged with aggravated assault and murder, according to Fulton County jail records.

She’s reportedly expected to appear in court next week for a preliminary hearing.
