More than 20 dogs die in North Vegas house fire

North Las Vegas firefighters were able to rescue about 70 animals when a house caught fire Sunday night, but more than 20 dogs died in the flames, CBS Las Vegas affiliate KLAS-TV reports.

Fire Captain Cedric Williams told the station firefighters found the home heavy smoke and fire when they arrived.

A man from the home was taken to the hospital. His condition wasn't known.

Fire crews from both Las Vegas Fire and Rescue and North Las Vegas worked to put out the fire and rescue the animals.

Some of the dogs were treated at the scene. Others were taken to pet hospitals. Animal Control workers from both North Las Vegas and Las Vegas were there to help with the animals.

Neighbors said they had no idea how many dogs were inside the home.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
