Mom charged in death of 1-year-old son at NYC restaurant

NEW YORK -- Police have arrested a woman after her son was found unconscious in the bathroom of a midtown Manhattan restaurant Monday afternoon, reports CBS New York.

Latisha Fisher, 35, now faces charges of second-degree murder in the death of the toddler, Gavriel Ortiz-Fisher.

The incident reportedly occurred at the 5 Boro Burger restaurant midtown Manhattan around 2:45 p.m. Monday.

Police say that after an extended period of time in the bathroom, a concerned worker entered a bathroom and found Fisher with her son unconscious on her lap. After a person asked her what she was doing, the mother allegedly said, "I put my hand over his mouth to put him to sleep," according to the station.

Sources also told CBS New York the boy's mother allegedly said, "The devil made me do it." The boy was in cardiac arrest and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
