Missing woman's body found in attic; friend arrested

HAZEL PARK, Mich. -- A Michigan man was arrested after the body of his friend, a missing Troy woman, was found wrapped in tarp in the attic of his home, reports CBS Detroit.

Hazel Park Police Chief Martin Barner said Jordan McClanahan confessed to killing his longtime friend, 21-year-old Jessica Leigh White, at his home. Police believe she died two weeks ago, the day she vanished.

An autopsy determined White had died of strangulation by ligature. White's mother said she was last known to be with McClanahan in the Detroit suburb of Hazel Park, where McClanahan lives.

McClanahan told detectives after the disappearance that White had left to visit someone in Detroit, setting off a search by multiple law enforcement agencies and volunteers, reports the station.

Her remains were reportedly found Tuesday night in a storage area adjacent to McClanahan's bedroom. Police say he is expected to be charged with murder.

"It's disturbing to know that this gentleman was assisting the family in attempting to locate a person that he knew (was dead)," Barner told the station. "We know they have been friends since grade school."
