Missing Fla. girl, last seen in August, found safe

TALLAHASSEE -- A 14-year-old Florida girl has been found safe after going missing more than two months ago, reports CBS affiliate WCTV.

Adelle Burns was last seen Aug. 26 when she went to bed with her younger sister at her family's Tallahassee home, reported the Tallahassee Democrat. Her mother awoke early the next morning to find the middle school student gone.

She had left a note explaining that she would be with friends in Mississippi, reports the paper. For months, there had been no word from the teen despite a multi-state search.

Burns was found Nov. 6 at her boyfriend's house in Tallahassee, reports the station. She was reportedly hiding in the closet.

Her family had launched a campaign to spread the word about Adelle's disappearance through fliers and billboards, reports the station.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office investigated Burns' disappearance as a runaway case. They served search warrants, issued court orders and subpoenas, administered lie detector tests and analyzed multiple electronic devices in the multi-state investigation, investigators told the Tallahassee Democrat.

Family members say they're happy the girl has been found unharmed.

"It was just a big sigh of relief," the girl's mother, Glenna Phillips, told WCTV.
