Minn. man sentenced after shooting 3 over "Happy Birthday" song dispute

MINNEAPOLIS - A Minneapolis man was sentenced last week to 27 ½ years in prison for the shooting of three women in north Minneapolis last year, according to CBS Minnesota.

Delonte Ahshone Thomas, 20 at the time of the July 2014 incident, was convicted of three attempted murder charges.

The station reported that Thomas was upset that a woman rejected his suggestion for the partygoers to sing "Happy Birthday" to his girlfriend, at another man's outdoor birthday party. Thomas left the party and returned about 20 minutes later with a semi-automatic gun.

According to CBS Minnesota, Thomas then fired numerous shots at people behind the residence. One woman was shot nine times in her upper arm, pelvis abdomen, thigh, back and buttocks.

Another woman was shot eight times, including one which hit the center of her chest. And a third woman suffered eight gunshot wounds to her left leg and one to her right leg.

All three victims survived and underwent surgery.
