Minnesota man accused of plotting to join ISIS pleads guilty
MINNEAPOLIS - One of seven men awaiting trial on charges of plotting to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State group has pleaded guilty.
Nineteen-year-old Hanad Mustafe Musse pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. CBS Minnesota reports two other charges against Musse were dropped as part of a plea deal.
U.S. District Judge Michael Davis didn't set a sentencing date for Musse, who faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
Prosecutors allege Musse and some of his co-defendants took a bus to New York last November with plans to go to Syria. They were part of a larger group that conspired to join the terrorist group.
Musse admitted in court Wednesday that he wanted to join the group even though he knew it has committed beheadings, taken hostages and raped women.
"I committed a terrorist act and I am guilty," Musse said in court, according to CBS Minnesota.
