Melania Trump: "My husband is ready to lead this great nation"

Melania Trump speaks at Republican National Convention

Melania Trump delivered an uplifting, positive speech Monday night at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, portraying her husband Donald Trump as the candidate ready to lead the nation.

But first, husband Donald Trump made an unusual appearance on Monday in order to introduce her. The lights came down, and as Queen's "We are the Champions" played in the arena, Trump walked on stage.

He thanked the roaring crowd and promised, "Oh, we're going to win. We're going to win so big," before going on to deliver a brief one-sentence introduction to "the next first lady...., my wife, an amazing mother, and an incredible woman, Melania Trump."

The 46-year-old said the presumptive GOP presidential nominee "will never, ever let you down" and that he "always has been an amazing leader."

"My husband is ready to lead this great nation," she said. "He is ready to fight every day, to give our children the better future they deserve."

Did Donald Trump undercut the RNC?

Trump said she has been with her husband for 18 years and that she arrived to New York City 20 years ago. In 2006, she said she became a U.S. citizen.

"I cannot take the freedoms this country offered for granted," said Trump, who then recognized former GOP presidential nominee and Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kansas, as well as other war veterans on the convention floor.

Unlike many of the other convention speakers Monday night, Melania Trump refrained from slamming President Obama and Hillary Clinton and only focused on her husband's accomplishments.

"Donald intends to represent all the people, not just some of the people. That includes Christians and Jews and Muslims, it includes Hispanics and African Americans and Asians, and the poor and the middle class," she said.

While she described Trump in a positive light, she didn't offer any examples or anecdotes of her life with her husband.

"His achievements speak for themselves, and his performance throughout the primary campaign proved that he knows how to win," she said.
