Cable combo. Charter Communications is buying Time Warner Cable for about $55 billion. Charter (CHTR) wanted to buy Time Warner (TWC) months ago, but Time Warner chose to accept Comcast's (CMCSA) bid instead. That deal fell through because regulators were concerned the merged company would be too big.

Crafty competition. Amazon (AMZN) could be taking on Etsy (ETSY) with its own online marketplace for crafts, called "Handmade at Amazon."

Criminal charges? General Motors' compensation expert has now approved 107 death claims related to faulty ignition switches. GM (GM) will reportedly face criminal charges over the delayed recall.

iPromotion. Apple (AAPL) design guru Jony Ive has been promoted to chief design officer. He helped design the iPod, iPhone, and Apple's Watch. In his new role, Ive will also help design Apple's retail stores and a new California campus.

"Soup Nazi" goes mobile. Soupman Inc. will open a "Soupmobile" food truck in New York's Financial District, with plans to expand to other parts of the country.

Box office bust. The holiday weekend was a bust at the box office, with the worst Memorial Day sales since 2001.
