Mass. officers kill man suspected of stabbing mother to death

WEYMOUTH, Mass. - Eastern Massachusetts authorities have identified a man killed by police officers and a woman found fatally stabbed in front of a home in an apparent domestic dispute.

The Norfolk district attorney says 49-year-old Paul Campbell was killed by Weymouth police shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, and 72-year-old Patricia Campbell was fatally stabbed. Officials say it appears Paul Campbell was Patricia Campbell's son.

Police say officers were called to a home and encountered an agitated man armed with at least one knife. Authorities say two officers shot at Paul Campbell, who later died at South Shore Hospital.

Patricia Campbell was found dead on the front steps of her home.

The officers' names haven't been released. They were placed on administrative leave under normal protocols.
