Mass casualty incident declared after multi-vehicle crash in Maryland

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md.-- Authorities have declared a mass casualty incident after they say at least 12 people were injured following a multi-vehicle crash on Sunday, CBS Baltimore reported.

It happened on NB I-270 between Rt. 121 and Rt. 109.

According to Montgomery County Fire & EMS Spokesperson Pete Piringer, at least 12 patients, including six children were being evaluated.

Piringer says of those injured, eight patients, including four children, were transported for non-life threatening injuries. One woman was transported for serious injuries sustained in the crash.

Piringer said all lanes are blocked on I-270 due to a crash involving at least five cars.

The exact cause remains under investigation.
