Martin Freeman joins "Captain America: Civil War"

The cast of Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" is growing with news that Martin Freeman will star in the upcoming superhero film.

Freeman is known for his roles in "Hot Fuzz," "Sherlock," "Fargo" and the "Hobbit" trilogy. The 43-year-old English actor has won a Primetime Emmy Award and a BAFTA Award for his portrayal of Doctor John Watson in "Sherlock."

"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in 'The Office,' Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," said "Captain America: Civil War" producer Kevin Feige, according to Marvel. "We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

"Captain America: Civil War," which hits theaters May 6, 2016, also stars Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie and Robert Downey Jr.
