Marco Rubio eyes presidential announcement date

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, is eyeing Monday, April 13 as the date to announce the launch of his presidential campaign, a Rubio adviser tells CBS News.

A possible venue for the announcement is Freedom Tower in Miami, home to the Cuban American Museum and a historical landmark important to Cuban immigrant history. The U.S. used the tower when processing and assisting Cuban refugees fleeing Fidel Castro's violent revolution in the late 1950s. Rubio is the son of Cuban immigrants.

The Florida senator's camp insists nothing has been locked down for any sort of announcement.

Fellow Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, announced his presidential campaign in late March, and other White House hopefuls are expected to officially declare their candidacy in the coming weeks.

The probable announcement date was first reported by the Miami Herald.
