Convicted killer Jahleel Hoskins throws table at judge

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After being given 50 to 100 years behind bars for murdering his girlfriend, Jahleel Hoskins threw a reading table at the judge who issued the sentence, CBS affiliate WSBT reports.

Hoskins had just been found guilty Monday of strangling 26-year-old Latrice Maze, when, in a fit of rage, he  hurled the table in the judge’s direction and screamed at the victim’s family before being forcibly removed from the room by court deputies.

Prosecutors say Hoskins killed Maze to keep her from telling police about  his involvement in a non-fatal stabbing.  Maze, a mother of five, went missing in March 2013 and her remains have yet to be found, according to Grand Rapids authorities.

Hoskins had accepted a plea deal on Dec. 11, pleading guilty to second-degree murder in order to avoid a first-degree murder charge.

Before sentencing, Hoskins apologized to Maze’s family and said the murder was unintentional.

In sentencing the 26-year-old Hoskins to at least 50 years in prison with a maximum of 100 years, Judge James R. Redford noted that the killer diisposed of the victim's body in the garbage for incineration.
