Man suspected in 3 fatal Florida shootings dead

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Authorities say a man suspected in the slayings of three people in Florida has died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler says 41-year-old Murray Lancaster's body was found Tuesday in a camper trailer by a SWAT team hours after the bodies of his girlfriend, her father and his ex-wife were found.

The sheriff's office said the bodies of Lancaster's girlfriend Valorie Short, her father, Waylin "Buddy" Short, and his ex-wife Erica Green were found early Tuesday.

Lancaster is the nephew of former Clay County Sheriff Scott Lancaster, and son of a county commissioner. Lancaster had been arrested in March for domestic battery and resisting an officer after he and Buddy Short had a confrontation.

Court records indicate that Valorie Short told police Lancaster got angry because she had refused to give him his keys when he was drunk.

Beseler said Lancaster abducted Valorie Short at gunpoint Tuesday morning from the hair salon where she worked.

Shelly Hodges of the Keeping it Classy salon, told CBS affiliate WJAX that the suspect told Valorie Short, "We're going to get your father."

Police found the bodies of Valorie Short and her father at a nearby country club.

Beseler says Lancaster next went to a landfill where his ex-wife worked and fatally shot her.

Lancaster later attempted to see his children at their elementary school, but was unable to, WJAX reports. Officials found Lancaster dead Tuesday afternoon from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
