Man saves what's important from fire: family and BBQ ribs

FRESNO, CA -- A California man is thankful he was able to save his family and escape a fire near his apartment, but that is not the only thing he is thankful for.

Robert Wright is also thankful he was able to rescue his barbecue ribs. And now a video of Wright talking about his ribs to KMPH Fresno has gone viral.

"I got my kids first and then I thought about my ribs and I didn't want to let my ribs burn," said Wright to KMPH.

KMPH reports that the fire happened around 3 a.m. Tuesday in Fresno. A 6-year-old boy and his mother are recovering in the hospital after the fire in their apartment.

Wright lives next-door. He told KMPH he was barbecuing ribs at the time when he saw the fire.

"I was barbecuing man, I was seeing this fire just come out. The window busted out man. And the only thing I think first is, make sure those ribs are alright," he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
